The Short Term Business Statistics Surveys (Council Regulation (EC, EURATOM) No 1165/98 of 19 May 1998) are quarterly or monthly surveys used to produce timely quarterly or monthly indicators, normally in the form of Indices.
A monthly based questionnaire sent to a fixed sample of quarrying enterprises from the Business Register. These enterprises are included under Section B – Mining and Quarrying under NACE Rev 2.
This monthly questionnaire is sent to approximately 400 manufacturing enterprises in Malta and Gozo from a fixed sample from the Business Register. These enterprises are engaged in activities listed under Section C under NACE Rev 2.

The Industrial Producer Price Index is a monthly survey, targeting the manufacturing and energy (water and electricity) sectors. The index monitors the changes in ex-works sale prices of all leading products within a sample of around 70 large enterprises. Sampled enterprises account for over 80 per cent of total industrial turnover.
The scope of the index is to provide a measure of upstream inflation, at producer level, to supplement the measure of inflation faced by the household sector, as provided by the Retail Price Index (RPI) and Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).

The STS-Regulations require short-term statistics on building permits under the provisions of Annex B in terms of the number of dwellings and in terms of a size measure. It is the objective of the building permit indicators to show the future development of construction activity. The tracking of building permits provides a relatively simple indication of the short-term future workload of the building side of construction.
