The Community Innovation Survey (CIS) is carried out by means of a census survey to all business enterprise in specific NACE classification and employing 10 or more. Employment is grouped into three employment size-classes: 10-49 employees (small), 50-249 employees (medium-sized), 250+ employees (large).
The sampling frame used for the census is the official Business Register.
This survey collects information about technical and non technical innovative activities carried out in a specific 3 year period in the business sector. Technical innovation refers to new or significantly improved products, while non technical refers to organisational and marketing innovations.
