The Environment & Resources Authority (ERA) is a statistical partner with the NSO and has recently been designated as an ONA. It is the competent authority in Malta, established under the Environment Protection Act responsible to collect, hold and make publicly accessible environmental information under the Environment Protection Act, including inter alia official statistics related to waste management.

The ERA collects and directly transmits official statistics to Eurostat on waste shipment, waste batteries and accumulators, municipal waste recycled, construction and demolition waste, food waste, waste oils, municipal waste landfilled, end-of-life vehicles, packaging waste, lightweight plastic carrier bags, waste electrical and electronic equipment, plastic own resources.

The ERA is also responsible for collecting and keeping records of waste exports, the national waste inventory, on the inert waste treatment facilities, and on data related to air pollutants, which are all transmitted to the NSO.
