Inflation calculator

The Retail Price Index (RPI) tracks monthly changes in the cost of a typical basket of consumer goods and services. Our Inflation Calculator uses RPI data to calculate the percentage change in prices between two selected time periods.

You can also use the calculator to adjust the value of money for inflation. For example, if you had €100 in 2015, the calculator shows how much you would need in a later year to buy the same quantity of goods and services.

The calculator is powered by data from the Index of Inflation, which is available in the Selected Indicators section of our Prices page.

For details on how the RPI is compiled, please see the methodological notes in our latest news release.

In calculating inflation, the inflation rate of the previous year is used.  Thus, if for example one needs to compute an increase from 2018 to 2023, the calculator will use the indices for reference years 2017 and 2022 in the calculation.
