Quarterly comparison
After adjusting for seasonal effects and the working-day pattern, the total services turnover index dropped by 0.9 per cent between the fourth quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
Decreases in turnover were recorded in real estate activities (8.8 per cent), transportation and storage (6.4 per cent), wholesale trade (6.0 per cent), professional, scientific and technical activities (2.8 per cent), information and communication (2.3 per cent), and administrative and support service activities (0.8 per cent). On the other hand, turnover increased in motor vehicles trade (5.1 per cent), accommodation and food service activities (1.4 per cent), and retail trade (0.9 per cent) (Table 1).
Between the fourth quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, the number of persons employed (Table 3) and hours worked (Table 7) declined by 3.5 per cent and 1.7 per cent, respectively, while gross wages and salaries (Table 5) went up by 1.2 per cent.
Annual comparison
During the first quarter of 2026, the total services turnover index registered an increase of 4.5 per cent on an annual basis after adjusting for the working-day pattern.
The highest increase in turnover was registered in real estate activities (22.4 per cent), followed by accommodation and food service activities (12.3 per cent), motor vehicles trade (10.1 per cent), administrative and support service activities (9.5 per cent), retail trade (7.1 per cent), wholesale trade (3.5 per cent), information and communication (3.0 per cent), and transportation and storage (2.7 per cent). On the contrary, a decrease of 2.4 per cent was recorded in professional, scientific and technical activities (Table 2).
When compared to the first quarter of 2025, the indicators for the number of persons employed (Table 4) and hours worked (Table 8) declined by 1.8 per cent and 1.9 per cent, respectively. However, gross wages and salaries increased by 3.2 per cent (Table 6).
