Statistical Insights involve the application of statistical methods and techniques to analyse data generated from pilot projects. These still represent official statistical data but which are undergoing testing and therefore are not yet in their finalised form. Users should note that these statistics may carry a higher level of uncertainty and should be treated with caution.
EU-SILC: Technical note on break-in-time-series
Following the media coverage of data published from the EU-SILC survey in news release 182/2025 “EU-SILC 2024: Main dwellings”, the NSO wishes to provide further clarification on methodological updates implemented in the survey which have resulted in some of the secondary indicators from the EU-SILC 2023 and EU-SILC 2024 to no longer be fully comparable with previous years.

Sales and Use of Inorganic Fertilisers
As part of the Statistics on Agricultural Input and Output (SAIO) Regulation (EU) 2022/2379, Member States will be required to report the quantity of nutrients from inorganic fertilisers used on an annual basis and the absolute input prices of specific fertilisers. In view of these requirements, the NSO carried out a project in order to set up a new statistical system through which these datasets were collected.

To compare the inbound tourist population to the local population, it is essential to consider the daily average presence of tourists and residents within a specific time-period and area.

Paid Care Work in Malta
The information in this release is based on the Labour Force Survey (LFS), which is an enquiry among households which is used to monitor labour market trends across the European Union. The LFS is conducted according to Regulation (EU) 2019/1700, which sets rules for collecting and analyzing data about individuals and households in a standardized way. It also follows Regulation (EU) 2020/257, which specifies the details about variables related to the labour force.
