The section concludes with estimates of distance travelled by motor vehicles in the Maltese Islands.

1. Data on public transport is provided by Transport Malta.
2. Definitions regarding Public Transport
Tallinja Card categories:
(i) Student (Using Personalised Travel Cards)
Applies to persons between the ages of 11 and 16 years both inclusive and any person who can provide evidence that he/she is enrolled in a full time course the duration of which is at least three months with an education institution registered with the Ministry of Education.
(ii) Child (Using Personalised Travel Cards)
Applies to persons between the ages of 4 and 10 years both inclusive.
(iii) Adult (Using Personalised Travel Cards)
Applies to persons between the ages of 17 and 59 years both inclusive.
(iv) Concession (Using Personalised Travel Cards)
Applies to persons in possession of a 60+ ID Card issued by the appropriate Government Department . Be in possession of a Blue Badge or the Special Identity Card issued by KNPD.
(v) Gozo (Using Personalised Travel Cards)
Issued to Gozo residents for travel within the island of Gozo only.
(vi) On-board Tickets
Relates to tickets purchased on-board buses. There is no distinction between the different types of passengers.
(vii) Non-Personalised Cards
Cards which are for a definite number of trips or definite duration.
(viii) Special/Night
Relates to tickets purchased on Night Services and Special Service routes.
(ix) Other
Related to employees, employee relatives and other commuters not included in the other categories.
