Methodological Notes
1. The data in regarding the Cruise Liners is compiled on the basis of administrative records held by the Transport Malta.
2. Cruise liners calling at both Malta and Gozo during a single voyage are recorded as one cruise liner call.
3. Definitions regarding Cruise Liners:
(i) Cruise passenger traffic comprises embarkations from Malta, transit passengers and passengers landing in Malta.
(ii) Embarkations comprise all cruise passengers who are either Maltese who leave Malta on a cruise ship, or alternatively, foreigners who come to Malta by other means of transport and leave on a cruise ship.
(iii) Transit passengers comprise all cruise passengers who arrive in and leave Malta on the same cruise ship.
(iv) Landings comprise all cruise passengers who arrive in Malta on a cruise ship and leave by other means of transport, or alternatively, stay in Malta.
(v) Same-day visitors comprise visitors to Malta who do not spend at least one night in collective or private accommodation.
(vi) Overnight visitors (tourists) comprise visitors to Malta who spend at least one night in collective or private accommodation.
4. Owing to the COVID-19 situation, cruise liner calls were suspended from 10th March until 21st August 2020.
