INTRODUCTION
The Transport Statistics Portal is a continuation in the series of the NSO’s yearly transport publications. Following on its previous editions, this portal presents detailed statistical data about road, sea, and air transport. The comprehensive picture this portal presents makes it significant for different stakeholders, such as – but not limited to, port management consultants, businesses, and urban planning professionals.
The portal presents information about air transport which brings forth a detailed picture of air traffic and passenger movements. Information on sea transport is also presented, providing a comprehensive description of vessels registered under the Maltese flag, passenger and vehicle movements between Malta and Gozo, and passenger movements between Valletta and The Three Cities. Finally, the road transport section presents information about licensed motor vehicles, localities with the highest number of registered vehicles per 1,000 persons, number of stolen vehicles, transport-related contraventions, and much more.
The appeal of portals like these lies in the utilisation of tables, graphics, and maps to enhance the representation of data. These elements facilitate the understanding of information conveyed in text for readers and users.
