It-trasport bil-baħar bejn Malta u Għawdex
Bejn April u Ġunju 2023, saru total ta’ 11,159 vjaġġ, li ġarrew total ta’ 1,724,703 passiġġieri (Tabella nru 1). Ġunju kien l-aktar xahar imħabbat meta fih saru total ta’ 3,904 vjaġġi jew 35.0 fil-mija tal-vjaġġi kollha fʼdan il-perjodu (Tabelli nri 3 u 7).
It-trasport bil-baħar bejn l-Imġarr u ċ-Ċirkewwa
Total ta’ 1,541,916-il passiġġier ivvjaġġaw bejn l-Imġarr u ċ-Ċirkewwa fit-tieni kwart tal-2023, li hija żjieda ta’ 14.0 fil-mija meta mqabbla mal-istess tliet xhur tal-2022. L-ogħla numru ta’ passiġġieri kien irreġistrat f’April — 528,924 jew 34.3 fil-mija tat-total għat-trimestru. Meta mqabbel mas-sena ta’ qabel, l-għadd ta’ vetturi żdied b’4.0 fil-mija, b’total ta’ 518,198 (Tabelli nri 2 u 3).
Fit-tieni kwart tas-sena, l-għadd ta’ vjaġġi laħaq it-8,905, li hija żjieda taʼ 2.7 fil-mija fuq l-istess żmien fl-2022 (Tabella nru 2). FʼMejju kien irreġistrat l-ogħla numru ta’ vjaġġi — 3,069 jew 34.5 fil-mija tal-vjaġġi totali għat-trimestru (Tabella nru 3).
Bejn April u Ġunju 2023, it-traffiku tal-passiġġieri li joriġina miċ-Ċirkewwa kien l-aktar imħabbat nhar taʼ Sibt u nhar taʼ Ġimgħa, filwaqt li t-traffiku tal-vetturi li joriġina miċ-Ċirkewwa kien l-aktar imħabbat fil-jiem tal-Ġimgħa u s-Sibt. Min-naħa l-oħra, mit-terminal tal-Imġarr, it-traffiku tal-passiġġieri kien l-aktar imħabbat fil-Ħdud u s-Sibtijiet, filwaqt li t-traffiku tal-vetturi kien l-ogħla fil-Ħdud u t-Tnejnijiet (Ċarts nri 4 u 5).

Matul it-tieni kwart tal-2023, saru total ta’ 2,254 vjaġġ li ġarrew total ta’ 182,787 passiġġier (Tabella nru 6). Meta mqabbel mal-istess żmien fl-2022, l-għadd ta’ vjaġġi żdied b’35.5 fil-mija, filwaqt li n-numru ta’ passiġġieri żdied b’44.6 fil-mija. Ix-xahar taʼ Ġunju rreġistra l-ogħla numru ta’ vjaġġi — 924 jew 41.0 fil-mija tal-vjaġġi kollha għat-trimestru — kif ukoll l-ogħla numru ta’ passiġġieri — 75,749 jew 41.4 fil-mija għat-tieni kwart tas-sena (Tabella nru 7).

1. The source of the data included in this release is administrative information provided by the Gozo Channel Co. Ltd and Transport Malta.
2. The fast ferry service operating between Mġarr and Valletta commenced on 1 June 2021.
3. The table below illustrates the vehicle and passenger capacity of each Gozo Channel vessel:

MV Nikolaos started operating on 13/06/2019.
MV Nikolaos was put temporarily out of service between 25/04/2022-29/05/2022 and 18/04/2023-26/04/2023.

5. Data for passengers travelling between Mġarr and Ċirkewwa comprises of foot and vehicle passengers and vehicle drivers. The fast ferry service does not allow for the transport of vehicles thus, only foot passengers are included.
6. Different approaches to data collection are being applied at the Mġarr and Ċirkewwa harbours with regards to the Gozo Channel service. Data source for the Mġarr side includes Automated Ticketing System (ATS), while data for the Ċirkewwa side is dependent on the manual clicking system.
