It-trasport bil-baħar bejn Malta u Għawdex
Bejn Ottubru u Diċembru 2023, saru total ta’ 10,185 vjaġġ, li ġarrew total ta’ 1,612,813-il passiġġier (Tabella nru 1). Ottubru kien l-aktar xahar impenjattiv meta fih saru total ta’ 3,784 vjaġġ jew 37.2 fil-mija tal-vjaġġi kollha fʼdan il-perjodu (Tabelli nri 3 u 7).

Total ta’ 1,440,644 passiġġier ivvjaġġaw bejn l-Imġarr u ċ-Ċirkewwa fir-rabaʼ kwart tal-2023, li hija żieda ta’ 9.6 fil-mija meta mqabbla mal-istess tliet xhur tal-2022. L-ogħla numru ta’ passiġġieri kien irreġistrat f’Ottubru — 544,654 jew 37.8 fil-mija tat-total għat-trimestru. Meta mqabbel mal-istess kwart tas-sena ta’ qabel, l-għadd ta’ vetturi żdied bi 3.2 fil-mija għal total ta’ 500,723 (Tabelli nri 2 u 3).
Fir-rabaʼ kwart tas-sena, l-għadd ta’ vjaġġi laħaq it-8,513, li huwa tnaqqis taʼ 4.2 fil-mija fuq l-istess żmien fl-2022 (Tabella nru 2). FʼOttubru kien irreġistrat l-ogħla numru ta’ vjaġġi — 3,118 jew 36.6 fil-mija tal-vjaġġi totali għat-trimestru (Tabella nru 3).
Bejn Jannar u Diċembru 2023, il-jiem tal-Ġimgħa u s-Sibt kellhom l-aktar traffiku taʼ passiġġieri u vetturi li oriġinaw miċ-Ċirkewwa. Min-naħa l-oħra, fil-Ħdud u s-Sibtijiet kien hemm l-aktar traffiku taʼ passiġġieri li oriġinaw mit-terminal tal-Imġarr, filwaqt li t-traffiku tal-vetturi mill-istess naħa kien l-ogħla fil-Ħdud u t-Tnejnijiet. Matul ir-rabaʼ kwart tal-2023, saru total ta’ 1,672 vjaġġ li ġarrew total ta’ 172,169 passiġġier (Tabella nru 6). Meta mqabbel mal-istess żmien fl-2022, l-għadd ta’ vjaġġi żdied bʼ145.9 fil-mija, filwaqt li n-numru ta’ passiġġieri żdied bi 106.5 fil-mija. Ix-xahar taʼ Ottubru rreġistra kemm l-ogħla numru ta’ vjaġġi — 666 jew 39.8 fil-mija, kif ukoll l-ogħla numru ta’ passiġġieri — 82,387 jew 47.9 fil-mija — tar-rabaʼ kwart tas-sena (Tabella nru 7).

Meta jingħaddu s-servizzi tal-Gozo Channel u tal-fast ferry flimkien, fl-2023 l-għadd taʼ vjaġġi telaʼ bʼ1,187 jew 2.9 fil-mija fuq is-sena taʼ qabel. It-trasport tal-vetturi bejn iż-żewġt igżejjer, sena għal sena, żdied bi 78,236 jew 4.0 fil-mija, filwaqt li l-għadd taʼ passiġġieri żdied bi 874,393 jew 15.4 fil-mija (Tabella nru 1). Fl-2023, ix-xahar taʼ Lulju rreġistra l-ogħla għadd taʼ vjaġġi bʼ4,073, filwaqt li Awwissu rreġistra l-ogħla għadd taʼ passiġġieri u vetturi, bʼ693,492 u 200,118 rispettivament (Tabelli 3 u 7).

1. The source of the data included in this release is administrative information provided by the Gozo Channel Co. Ltd and Transport Malta.
2. The fast ferry service operating between Mġarr and Valletta commenced on 1 June 2021.
3. The table below illustrates the vehicle and passenger capacity of each Gozo Channel vessel:

MV Nikolaos started operating on 13/06/2019.
MV Nikolaos was put temporarily out of service between 25/04/2022-29/05/2022 and 18/04/2023-26/04/2023.

5. Data for passengers travelling between Mġarr and Ċirkewwa comprises foot and vehicle passengers and vehicle drivers. The fast ferry service does not allow for the transport of vehicles thus, only foot passengers are included.
6. Different approaches to data collection are being applied at the Mġarr and Ċirkewwa harbours with regards to the Gozo Channel service. Data source for the Mġarr side includes Automated Ticketing System (ATS), while data for the Ċirkewwa side is dependent on the manual clicking system.
